Eczema Treatment
Eczema treatment in Chapin, SC, by a board-certified dermatologist. Diagnosis, flare control, and long-term management.
What eczema actually is
Atopic dermatitis (the most common form of eczema) is a chronic inflammatory skin condition characterized by dry, itchy, and inflamed skin. It typically begins in childhood but can persist or appear at any age. The hallmark is the itch-scratch cycle that drives flares.
Eczema is not a single disease. It is a family of related inflammatory presentations, and treatment varies by type, severity, and patient-specific triggers.
Our approach
- Diagnostic clarity: distinguishing atopic dermatitis from contact dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis
- Trigger identification (irritants, allergens, climate, stress)
- Skin barrier restoration with appropriate emollients
- Topical corticosteroids matched to body site and severity
- Topical calcineurin inhibitors for sensitive areas
- Topical JAK inhibitors (newer class for moderate disease)
- Systemic therapy for severe or refractory cases (dupilumab, oral JAK inhibitors, methotrexate)
- Long-term maintenance plans to reduce flare frequency
Eczema is treatable. The right plan depends on the type, severity, and what has and has not worked in the past. Bring your treatment history to the first visit.
